Agrotur, the national Rural Tourism and Active Leisure, will present its eleventh edition this year. From 5 to 7 of November, Agrotur will return to be the meeting point of autonomous communities, rural tourism companies and visitors that come to the show to look for leisure alternatives. In parallel, Agrotur organises the VI edition of the National Rural Tourism Congress which will be inaugurated by the General Secretary of Tourism, Raimon Martínez Fraile.
According to the data by INE with reference to the month of May 2004, exists in Spain a total of 8,280 rural tourism establishments that offer a total of 72,576 beds. The autonomous community with the largest offer continues to be Castilla and Leon, whom in May this year, has an offer 1,447 open rural establishments and offered a total of 12,800 beds. Following it is Catalonia, with 1,070 open establishments and 8,601 beds and the community of Valencia and Cantabria with 6,001 and 5,036 beds respectively.
The progressive expansion of this tourism sector reflects that in a year, all the autonomous communities have increased in the number of rural establishements.
In the month of May, a total of 132,581 travellers used rural tourism, which is a 18.4% increment with respect to the same period in 2003. The number of night stay has also increased a 4.9% with respect to the same month in 2003.
