India is emerging as a major global economy, but the country’s exhibition infrastructure must be increased and modernized, according to a review of the exhibition industry in India conducted by UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry based in Paris.

UFI’s study also reveals a lack of purpose-built exhibition facilities. By comparison, China currently has eight times the exhibition space and more than three times the number of professionally organized exhibitions than India. New Delhi and Mumbai represent 70 percent of the nation’s dedicated exhibition capacity. New facilities are planned for Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi and Bangalore.

India has 55 show organizers, many of whom have formed partnerships and joint ventures with foreign exhibition organizations, which is driving the industry standard forward. The recent creation of an Indian exhibition association shows the willingness of the major market players to federate and structure the exhibition industry.
