Grupo eventoplus presents its record-breaking edition of Sport and Events Europe eSports: What we can learn from the quintessential hybrid events What popular festivals teach us for the MICE sector
Events are not just meeting points; they are catalysts for professional relationships. A clear example of this was the 4th edition of Sports & Events Europe, held at the José María Martín Carpena Sports Palace in Malaga. With a rapid sold-out, this event brought together 470 participants from 41 countries, including 203 buying companies (sports tour operators, event organizers, incentive specialists, and hospitality companies) and 198 suppliers of sports destinations, venues, technology, and ticketing services. But beyond these numbers, the essence of the event lay in the powerful pre-scheduled meeting agendas that each participant had, complemented by sports activities and cultural experiences exploring Malaga—making this gathering the largest B2B event for sports tourism in Europe.

A Start by the Sea

The event kicked off on March 25, with Malaga welcoming back the sun after several weeks of rain. The welcome dinner took place at Trocadero Casa de Botes, a restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean, setting the stage for the first meetings between buyers and suppliers.

On March 26, the José María Martín Carpena Sports Palace was transformed to host the 1-to-1 meetings between buyers and sellers of Sports & Events 2025 right on its court. With a capacity of 11,300 spectators, this venue—home to the iconic Unicaja Malaga—has hosted prestigious events such as the Davis Cup final, the Copa del Rey basketball tournament, and Rafa Nadal’s last match.
Following the official welcome by representatives of Málaga’s Tourism and Sports departments, the event honored its “MVPs” with a medal ceremony, recognizing the suppliers and agencies that have participated in all previous editions. Staying true to the sports theme, the winners’ images were displayed on the arena’s giant scoreboard—just like real NBA stars!

Meetings, networking, and much more

With energy at its peak, the pre-scheduled 1-to-1 meetings kicked off, allowing buyers and suppliers to expand their networks and explore new collaboration opportunities. Additionally, during the coffee break, the Victory Cheerleading team from Gym Victory delivered a high-energy performance.

After a productive morning, attendees set out to discover Malaga’s potential as a sports and cultural destination. They enjoyed padel matches at the Inacua center, hiking routes through the El Limonar Natural Park, a golf clinic at the Black Iron academy in the Parador de Málaga, a theatrical tour exploring the city’s historical heritage, and a goalball session, a Paralympic sport for people with visual impairments, in collaboration with ONCE.

The day’s grand finale came with a dinner at the Automobile and Fashion Museum, a 6,000-square-meter venue that houses one of the best collections of classic cars in Southern Europe. The evening, accompanied by live music, ended with attendees dancing to the rhythm of rock and pop classics.

Malaga from a sports perspective

The choice of Malaga as the host city for Sports & Events Europe 2025 was made possible through collaboration with the city’s municipal government, showcasing its potential as a destination for tourism and sports event organization. The city has hosted competitions such as the Basketball Supercup and the Generali Malaga Marathon, further solidifying its strong connection to sports. Additionally, Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport offers international access with direct flights to 140 cities across 40 countries, reinforcing its position as a key hub in Southern Europe. These features, along with its favorable climate and rich cultural offerings, aim to establish the city as a strategic location for hosting global events.

Sports & Events Europe 2025 in numbers

During the two days of the event, the official app developed by Meetmaps recorded: 4,500 individual meetings, 5,059 leads generated, 7,749 messages exchanged, and 16,867 interactions on the platform.

These numbers confirm that face-to-face meetings remain irreplaceable in creating business opportunities. Additionally, the app will remain active in the coming weeks to facilitate the follow-up of ongoing conversations.

Next stop… Seville!

On March 27, the second day of meetings concluded with a key announcement: the next edition of Sports & Events Europe will be held in Seville. With the support of Turismo Andaluz, the Andalusian capital will take over, aiming to further elevate the event’s impact and strengthen its positioning as a destination in the sports sector. Seville is already home to prestigious events such as the Zurich Seville Marathon, the A1 Pádel Master Tournament, the Sevilla-Betis Regatta, and the Seville Tennis Cup. Furthermore, in 2026, the city will host the Rowing World Cup, a milestone that adds to its offerings, as it is home to Spain’s only navigable river.

Thank you all!

Thanks to the sponsors who made this result possible! The event was supported by the Málaga City Council as the host municipality, Florida’s Sports Coast, and VIP Events Team USA.
