After the surprise that Paris gave to Vienna, undisputed queen of the podium since 2005 on the ICCA ranking last year, it seems to have come to stay with its 214 international conferences received during 2014.
Vienna (202), however, rescales positions displacing Madrid (200) to the third position. Barcelona (182) in fifth place in the ranking also gives way to Berlin (193) which is in fourth place. A closely fought competition in which each conference counts and that leaves out the top 5 cities so present in previous rankings as London or Singapore.
Madrid, who started an spectacular position as a destination for congresses since 2008 consolidates its role, with figures of number of events that have led to growth of 7.5% over 2013 and an increase of 65% of the number of attendees, partly because the city has managed to triple the Latin American congresses rotation.
ICCA also shows the strength of Spain as a destination in the international market putting it in third place with 578 congresses, behind US with 831 and Germany with 659.
