The city of Gijon organised yesterday (21/03/06) a press presentation and a workshop for professionals with the aim to highlight their offer for meetings tourism.

The presentation of the city, the second in Barcelona, was aimed to promote Gijon as a destination for conventions and corporate tourism. The workshop was attended by professionals, travel agencies, congress departments and incentive wholesalers, as well as PCOs and marketing and event agencies.

In 2005, Gijon held 62 meetings which brought a total number of 12,520 delegates to the city, a 35% increase in relation to 2004, due in part to the 12th National and 7th International Congress of the Spanish Society of General Medicine which was attended by over 2,500 professionals.
