The Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness Franck Riester announced the return to large events in September, subject to an authorization by local authorities, and gestures of sanitary prudence. This cancels the ban on large gatherings that began in March when the government banned events of more than 5,000 people. He made these remarks in a meeting with the leaders of large institutions of the events industry gathered at the Porte de Versailles exhibition center in Paris. “We thus demonstrate the same objective as our German and Italian partners: giving confidence to decision-makers and to the French, European and international business communities”, he said, in clear recognition of the value of events as a catalyst for economic activity.
“The events sector involves 4,000 fairs, congresses every year in France, in 200 venues and with a significant leverage effect for the economy. The business flows generated for the economy represent 34,5Bn euros per year, 455,000 jobs generated or maintained thanks to professional events”, he added in statements quoted collected by the economic newspaper Les Echos.
Furthermore, in its export support plan, the Government proposes to support the most internationalised trade shows. Several of them could benefit from financial and logistical support, highlighting that they are often the only way for small companies to access foreign markets.
An essential industry, that feels good.
