What is ‘NetZero Events’, the international commitment of the MICE industry? What do ChatGPT and artificial intelligence for events mean? Companies still far from defining sustainability targets in MICE
It has already been almost a decade that meeting design has come into our industry. And the smart Danes, aware that a destination could be more than hotels and restaurants, have started building on the strong tradition of innovation and education of their country, taking this opportunity to launch their own version of meeting design. Meetovation was born. Today, they relaunch the concept with a version 3.0, including a new manifesto, the decision to educate more Meetovators across Denmark and a new website with more hands-on meeting design tools and cases. The idea: to cement Denmark as a frontrunner in creating innovative meetings.

Beyond D-day. The new Meetovation concept looks beyond the meeting itself and takes a holistic look at value creation at meetings, whilst also contributing with more hands-on advice and cases on how to think strategic with meeting design. Steen Møller, head of the Meetovation committee and Business Events Denmark, says the concept includes “an increased focus on value creation for the meeting organiser with emphasis on creating behaviour changes in the participants. We have a more pronounced assessment of the relevant elements of meeting design, and an increased responsibility for the society we are part of.” The destination already has more than 300 Meetovators.

An interesting effort to educate meeting planners Meetovation is based on five elements: active involvement of the participant, responsible thinking (social and environmental responsibility of meetings), local inspiration (capturing the best of the local destination for the meeting), creative sessions setups (beyond theatre + ppt…) and finally, the sacred ROI, since all this is no use if the meeting does not create value. On this basis, this method suggests a whole set of methods, activities, ways of planning meetings. The idea is to avoid business as usual and innovate in meetings in a useful way.

An interesting initiative to position a destination in an innovative way, but also to train a whole set of professionals to be tomorrow´s meeting designers. The destination may end up really offering an army of meeting design-conscious professionals. In the Danish tradition, this was a group effort: nine key players from the Danish meetings industry have been involved in the enhancement of the Meetovation concept, with Business Events Denmark at the helm.
