Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), the second largest travel management company worldwide, has published their CWT Business Travel Indicator, a survey conducted on travel managers and business travellers in the 12 main business travel markets worldwide. The poll identifies key expectations related to business travel management and examines the challenges of travel managers in the management of corporate travel programmes, as well as how travel managers evaluate their external providor of travel management services.

Of the three main objectives for managed travel programmes, over half of the travel managers (54%) considered saving expenses to be top priority. Directly related to this fact, the fulfilling of corporate travel policies by travellers is the second most voted expectation (23%), followed by security of travellers (11%).

Customer service is considered to be essential for travel managers when evaluating their travel services external providor. Other criteria also considered very important by respondents are experience (82%), access to airline inventory (80%), reports and statistics (74%), price (70%) and the follow up of travellers(61%).

Although the majority of travel managers said their company has a company travel policy (98%), the awareness and understanding of the policy is frequently limited, as well as the knowledge of the repercussions if the policy is not to be respected. 41% of business travellers think their company does not have a corporate travel policy or are only slightly acquainted with it, while 48% of business travellers believe that not taking into consideration the companyâ
