What is ‘NetZero Events’, the international commitment of the MICE industry? What do ChatGPT and artificial intelligence for events mean? Companies still far from defining sustainability targets in MICE
Big events are back in France with the celebration of our industry’s trade show Heavent Meetings. And it does so with strong institutional support: the Delegate Minister in charge of Foreign Trade Franck Riester expressed his support for the MICE sector, his understanding of the importance of MICE not only as a generator of direct employment, but also as a generator of economic opportunities. A recognition by the government that should inspire us: we have a good “story”, we are necessary and any government would have to see us as an important sector to support. Undoubtedly we have work left in Spain, where the political world ignores the meetings & events sector and we consequently miss out on so many economic opportunities. By Eric Mottard

The Gallic Government had already stated on several occasions that the reactivation of the events was a priority, so much so that it reauthorized the major events on September 1, making a clear argument of why we are important: not because we generate many jobs (which we do), but because events generate opportunities to attract new markets, to internationalize, to generate innovation, to make companies work better. In short, we have an enormous economic weight (which according to international comparisons can be estimated in Spain at about 15 billion euros) but above all we are a catalyst, a multiplier. The important thing is not the beds we fill, but the new international clients captured at a fair, or the innovation session at the company’s convention.

Last week, this reactivation was demonstrated with the holding of MICE event Heavent Meetings, that brought together nearly 2,000 professionals, with security measures. Mandatory masks, a lot of signage explaining the safety regulations, cocktails ban, event without a party at night… but the essential, the relational and commercial part, could be maintained. You can see a summary in the video at the end of this article. Raimond Torrents (Torrents & Friends) attended this event and tells us about it as the first sign of this new normal, where there has been an enthusiasm to see and defend the very powerful “event” medium.

Now, the famous post by Minister Franck Riester: “Today, the Heavent Meetings fair has opened its doors: this is proof that fairs can be held when strict compliance with sanitary regulations is required. It was critical that the professional events industry be able to restart. This is essential for the recovery of our economy and the attractiveness of our country.
The presence of French and European leaders at the fair is a confident promise for the future of the industry. You can count on my full commitment so that France maintains its leading position in events on the international scene”.

Amen.
