MPI’s PEC-Europe in Monaco beats attendance record

Meeting Professionals International’s (MPI) 2005 Professional Education Conference-Europe (PEC-E) successfully opened in Monaco with program modifications in respect of the loss of Prince Rainier III of Monaco on 6th April.
Breaking all previous attendance and sponsorship records, the 2005 PEC-Europe welcomed 515 attendees from 30 countries, surpassing last year’s highest-ever attendance of 502 delegates. Total sponsorship exceeded USD $1.1 million.
To ensure an appropriate tone, some of the more festive aspects of the conference’s networking events were eliminated. Additionally, city-wide MPI signage was removed, and the MPI Foundation Europe Rendez-vous fundraiser party was cancelled. Instead, a 5,000 EUR donation will be made to the Princesse Grace Foundation to ensure the organisation leaves a legacy in Monaco. Rendez-vous sponsors Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. and the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre will convert their sponsorship into a donation.
“MPI is proud to be in Monaco for the 2005 Professional Education Conference-Europe as we celebrate our momentum in Europe and the increasing awareness of the meetings profession globally,” said Colin Rorrie, Jr., Ph.D., CAE, MPI president and CEO.
MPI recently reached a milestone of 1,379 members in its 10 Europe-based chapters and clubs, and retention has increased from 70 to nearly 74 percent. The next PEC-Europe 2006 will be held March 26-28 in Davos, Switzerland.
