The Grand Canary Islands will be the venue for the International Golf Travel Market in 2005, as confirmed by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) during its annual meeting in Estoril, assisted by the Patronato de Turismo of the Gran Canary Islands.

The delegation of Grand Canary present in Estoril was headed by the President of the patronato, Juan Jose Cardona, who considered that the success of this candidancy “has been in the unity of the action between the public and private sector”. “In Estoril, we have the Patronato, the hotel sector and the Golf association of Grand Canary united in a front that is producing fruits and is a recognition for the tourism sector in the island, and not only in golf”, said Cardona. The designation of Grand Canary as the next venue of the show will have the visit of more than 1,000 persons among the travel and incentives agents, specialised tour operators, convention agents, hotels, representatives from golf courses and airline companies of the world. For that, its President, Jose Manuel Soria, has emphasised that his “clear bet is on a large number of golf facilities” in the island “as a segment in the future for which, the precision of this candidancy is an important recognition”, he said.
