What is ‘NetZero Events’, the international commitment of the MICE industry? What do ChatGPT and artificial intelligence for events mean? Companies still far from defining sustainability targets in MICE
The Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC) association was founded in 2003 to promote sustainability through training, research and definition of standards. It has experienced a 300% growth over the past two years. Guy Bigwood launched MCI in Spain and was its CEO until 2009, when he was named sustainability group director of the agency. We talk to the president!

How are Europe, and Spain, faring within GMIC?
Our big focus of GMIC is international growth. Today 80% of membership is US, but this is changing. We have high profile international members from Vancouver to Melbourne. Membership is growing steadily in Europe. We just launched an Italian Chapter, and we chapters in Holland and Sweden and fast developing. In Iberian peninsula, like sustainable meetings, membership has been slow. However we have seen recent leadership from Costa Del Sol CVB, The Granada Congress Center and of course long term leadership from Estoril.

What are your key priorities in this mandate?
Main focus is on development and implementation of Education, Certification and Research programs, plus international development and collaboration. We recently launched a measurement tool with MPI, and are developing the APEX certification program with the convention industry council.
