The chain has reached an agreement with The Resort Group PLC to manage two new big 5 stars on the island of Sal, Cape Verde: Meliá Tortuga Beach Resort & Spa, will open in May 2011 and Meliá Dunas Beach Resort will do so in 2012. Together they offer 1,000 accommodations including suites and villas.

Cape Verde is an archipelago of ten tropical islands located in the Atlantic Ocean with long stretches of white sand and sun all year, making it increasingly positioned as a destination within the business tourism sector. In addition to creating new spaces, the island has an international airport with direct flights from around the world.
